Introduction

Healthy, well-shaped eyebrows play an important role in maintaining a youthful appearance as we grow older because, as we age, our eyebrows tend to thin out, lose their natural shape, and become sparser.

By paying attention to the condition and shape of our eyebrows, we can enhance our overall facial harmony and create a more youthful look. Well-groomed eyebrows frame the face, draw attention to the eyes, and provide a lift to the entire eye area, making the face appear more lifted and rejuvenated.  Thick, healthy eyebrows contribute to a more balanced and symmetrical facial structure, which is often associated with youthfulness.

In this article, we are going to give you our top tips for healthy, youthful looking eyebrows, and suggest some products that we think could be helpful.

Top 5 Tips for Youthful Eyebrows

#1 Regular Eyebrow Grooming

Regular grooming is essential to keep your eyebrows in good shape. Use a spoolie brush to comb your eyebrows upward and trim any long or unruly hairs with a small, sharp scissors or a blade to help maintain a nice shape and stop them from looking unloved.

Tweezing or threading can also be done to remove stray hairs and maintain the nice shape but do be careful not to over pluck as big is beautiful these days when it comes to your eyebrows!

#2 Nourish and condition your eyebrows with oils

As we age, eyebrow hairs may become more brittle and prone to breakage. To keep them healthy and nourished, consider using oils that contain ingredients like biotin and keratin. These products help strengthen the hairs and promote their growth.

It is said that regularly massaging castor oil into the brow area can encourage the growth of thicker and fuller eyebrows over time. According to Healthline.com, there are no peer-reviewed studies on the use of castor oil to support eyebrow hair growth but that studies carried out in 2012 and 2015 indicated that the chemical compound ricinoleic acid, which makes up almost 90 percent of castor oil, has the potential to help with hair loss.

We wrote a very popular article on Rosemary Oil and its benefits for eyebrow and head hair regrowth. It has been compared in its effectiveness with Rogaine’s active ingredient, Minoxidil. Check out the article here The Miracle of Rosemary Oil for Thicker, Fuller Eyebrows and Lashes

#3 Use an eyebrow hair growth serum

Eyebrow hair growth serums, such as LUXROS Eyebrow Serum, are designed to stimulate and promote the growth of eyebrow hairs. If you have naturally thin eyebrows or have experienced eyebrow thinning due to aging, over-plucking, or other factors, an eyebrow hair growth serum can help encourage the growth of new hairs, filling in the gaps and creating a fuller appearance.

Using a hair growth serum can strengthen the existing hairs, preventing them from thinning and promoting overall hair health and, while eyebrow hairs typically grow at a slower pace compared to scalp hair, using a growth serum can accelerate the process.

These serums often contain ingredients like peptides, vitamins, and plant extracts that nourish and condition the hair follicles, promoting faster and healthier hair growth. Eyebrow hair growth serums are typically easy to use and integrate into your daily skincare or beauty routine. Most serums come with a small brush applicator that allows you to apply the product directly to the eyebrows.

These serums are a good way to incorporate hair growth stimulation into your daily regimen but it is important to note that individual results may vary, and it’s always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before using a new product on your face.

#4 Create a fuller eyebrow look with makeup

To fill in gaps and achieve a fuller appearance, use eyebrow pencils, powders, or gels that match your natural brow colour. Choose products with a fine tip for precise application and blend them well for a natural look.

Eyebrow pencils and powders come in a variety of shades to match different eyebrow colours, which allows you to find a shade that closely matches your natural eyebrow colour, resulting in a natural appearance when using makeup to fill in thinned out areas. You can also choose to go slightly lighter or darker to enhance your brow shape and definition.

Eyebrow makeup can be designed to have long-lasting formulas that stay put throughout the day, and are often smudge-proof and waterproof, ensuring that your filled-in eyebrows remain intact even in humid or rainy conditions.

#5 Consider semi-permanent makeup

The old fashioned way to tattoo your eyebrows was a permanent block colour tattoo. Nowadays, techniques are much more sophisticated. What tends to be on offer is a semi-permanent tattoo that is either hair strokes, sometimes called microblading, or what is called ‘ombre powder’, which looks like a very soft block of colour.

We have seen lots of examples of these semi-permanent tattoos and people are often delighted with the results as they make your eyebrows look perfectly symmetrical and mean that you don’t need to apply makeup to fill out your eyebrows anymore.

Obviously, this should go without saying, only use a reputable salon with an experienced beautician. If you happen to live in Ireland, we highly recommend MyBrows Permanent Makeup in Dublin – their semi-permanent tattoo work on eyebrows, eyeliner and lips is very impressive!

A few final points on youthful eyebrows

Healthy diet & lifestyle: we are always going to tell you that the better your nutrition and your lifestyle, including sleep, exercise and stress management, the healthier you will be and the more beautiful you will appear. Your body has a better chance of being able to produce and grow healthy hair follicles if you are taking care of it.

Rogaine: we didn’t mention this in our top tips because, even though it might actually help stimulate hair follicles which have become dormant, the new hair growth will fall out again when you stop using the product.

Thyroid problems: according to PalomaHealth.com, missing hair in the outer third of your eyebrows can indicate hypothyroidism. Other symptoms include weight gain, sensitivity to the cold, tiredness and depression. If you have any of these symptoms, it may be worth talking to your GP.

Eyebrow hair colour: many women with fair eyebrows tint them but do be careful not to go too dark – consider a mid-brown tint rather than black. And, for those of you that want to go lighter, we suggest using a bleach, like Jolen Creme Bleach – you can then apply a tint afterwards because, if you bleach black eyebrows, they may turn an orange or golden shade, which may need to be adjusted with a  light brown tint.

Don’t go overboard: we see some people who go too far with eyebrows that are too thick and too dark. This means that when people look at your face, all they see is your eyebrows. The eyebrows should nicely frame the face, but not be the main feature!

Conclusion

The Seeoran team unanimously agrees that your eyebrow shape makes a huge difference to your face and can make you look older or younger, depending on how you manage them.

If you have very thinned out brows, adding fullness and colour to them can make you look much younger. And if you have thick eyebrows but they are quite fair, darkening the colour can help to frame your face and make more of a feature of your eyes.

So putting some time and thought into your eyebrows is well worth it!
